Download UniChat from the App Store or Google Play, open the app, and enter your mobile phone number. You'll receive a 6-digit OTP via SMS — enter it to verify your number. You can also sign in quickly using your Google account. On your first login, you'll be prompted to set a display name and choose your preferred language.

Wait up to 30 seconds — the OTP screen shows a countdown timer before the resend option becomes available. Tap "Resend OTP" once it appears. Make sure your phone has mobile signal or an internet connection. If the problem persists, check that you've entered the correct country code and phone number.

Go to your Profile tab. Tap "Edit Display Name" to update your name. Tap "Change Preferred Language" to select from 18 supported languages. Your language preference determines how incoming messages are translated for you — the other person sees messages in their own preferred language automatically.

Open the Profile tab and scroll to the bottom. Tap "Delete Account" and confirm when prompted. Your account will be permanently deleted — your display name is replaced with "Deleted User" and all personal information (phone number, email, notification tokens) is removed from our servers. This action is irreversible. If you only want a break, you can simply sign out instead.

Your past messages remain visible to other participants but will appear as sent by "Deleted User." Your profile picture initial avatar will be replaced with a generic placeholder. No new messages can be sent or received once your account is deleted.

UniChat automatically translates every message based on the recipient's preferred language. When you send a message, your contact sees it in their chosen language — and vice versa. You always see messages in your own preferred language. No manual action is needed; translation happens instantly and silently in the background.

UniChat uses a three-stage status indicator: a single tick means the message has been sent from your device; two ticks mean it has been delivered to the recipient's device; two filled/coloured ticks mean the message has been read by the recipient.

UniChat has a real-time typing indicator. When the other person is actively composing a reply in the chat, you'll see a typing indicator in the chat screen. This updates live via our Firestore-backed presence system and stops showing as soon as they pause or send.

Pull down on the chat list screen to manually refresh. Ensure you have an active internet connection. If messages still don't sync, sign out and sign back in. If the issue persists, uninstall and reinstall the app — your chat history is stored securely in the cloud and will restore on login.

Go to your device Settings → UniChat → Notifications and ensure notifications are enabled. On iOS, also check that Background App Refresh is on. UniChat uses Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) on Android and APNs on iOS. If you've recently reinstalled the app, your notification token may have refreshed — signing out and back in usually resolves this.

Yes. UniChat supports background push notifications on both iOS and Android. You'll receive a notification for every new message even when the app is fully closed. Tapping the notification will open the app directly to the relevant chat conversation.

UniChat needs permission to access your device contacts. Go to Settings → UniChat → Contacts and enable access. Once granted, the Contacts tab will show which of your phone contacts are already on UniChat. Contacts who haven't joined yet will show an "Invite to UniChat" option.

In the Contacts tab, tap any contact who isn't on UniChat yet and select "Invite to UniChat." This generates a personalised invite link you can share via SMS, WhatsApp, or any other platform. When your friend installs UniChat using the link, they'll automatically appear in your contacts.

UniChat currently supports 18 languages: English, Hindi, Thai, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified), Arabic, Portuguese, Russian, Italian, Dutch, Turkish, Vietnamese, Bengali, and Gujarati. We are continuously adding more languages based on user demand.

UniChat uses industry-leading neural machine translation. While accuracy is very high for most everyday conversations, automated translation may occasionally miss nuance, slang, or highly technical language. We recommend confirming critical information if perfect precision is needed.

Messages are stored securely in Google Firestore to enable real-time sync and chat history across devices. We do not sell your messages or personal data to third parties. For full details, please review our Privacy Policy.

UniChat collects your phone number or Google account email (for authentication), your chosen display name, your preferred language, and device push notification tokens.
